We have also added some fabulous tortilla corn chips and tortillas from Santa Anna’s. Santa Anna’s started as a once-of stall at the Getaway Show three years ago. After attempting to source quality local tortilla locally, the team eventually settled on producing their own. Santa Anna’s is now a small factory from where they can produce 8000 tortillas a day. They use local organic corn sourced from a biodynamic farm in Fickburg for the tortillas and also produce corn chips that are fried in coconut oil. Please send flattened cardboard boxes for our new urban organic farm project in conjunction with Brian Joffin and Toni Khulule from SEED, in Mitchell’s Plain, and Ihata Shelter, in Heideveld, Athlone. We need cardboard boxes as we prepare for our 1 hectare Food Gardening project. The Ihata Shelter exists to help ALL women affected by domestic violence who seek sanctuary by providing a caring, clean and safe shelter with accommodation up to 6 months. At the Ihata Shelter, women are allowed space and time to plan their lives forward through services geared towards empowerment, improved self-respect, independence and recovery, ending with successful community re-integration. Their motto is “Time to heal and tools to grow”. The vegetable garden lies at the heart of healing women. The program is used to help women heal. The garden is small and it is their dream to expand the garden into an organic farm. Director Nuraan Osman: “Each of the lessons taught in gardening, like composting are compared to removing all the waste out of our lives and placing seeds in the ground. This brings hope and joy to the hearts of women.”

A gigantic thank you to our friends at Reliance Compost, http://www.reliance.co.za/, for their massively generous donation of 12 cubes of compost to kick start the project.

Have a Hippy Happy weekend,
the Ethical Team
