Flu Busting Ninja Juice

It is around this time of year that getting out of bed is getting tougher. It is cold and dark and you can’t imagine leaving your duvet. There are some lucky farmers who are finally enjoying a break from the harvest and getting a chance to catch up with other activities. But they are not the only ones enjoying a well deserved break. The farmers are also giving the goats some time off to enjoy the… well that thing goats like doing so much?

A great debate exists between seasonal versus year round milk and dairy production. Goats are seasonal breeders and consequently are seasonal milk producers. Forage growth is seasonal and the aroma, flavour and texture of the dairy products produced are influenced greatly by what the goats are munching on.

Seasonality can be overcome by using various techniques but our friends at Foxenburg Estates think the wait will be well worth it for you and their goats. Foxenburg cannot supply any goat milk dairy products till the new season in August. By then the goats will be back in business. Their goats forage on certified organic pastures and so the dairy products are free from preservatives, hormones, anitbiotics and artificial colourants. We will be sure to alert you when Foxenburg are stocking dairy again. Foxenburg table olives will be ready around November. For those of you who have been hit hard by the change of season and are feeling under the weather so to speak, try to rely on natural remedies and avoid drug stores. Try gargling with salt water to relieve a sore throat, a hot bath with eucalyptus oil to clear the airways and THIS Flu Busting Ninja Juice:

Ingredients:
1 Pink Lady Apple
3cm chunk Fresh Ginger Root
Half medium Lemon (unwaxed)
1 heaped teaspoon Raw Honey
1 half cup Hot Water

Juicing Instructions:
Juice the apple, ginger and lemon (leave the peel on). Pour the juice into your favourite mug. Make sure you only half fill the mug and then top up with hot (not boiling) water from the kettle. Add the honey and get cosy.
